conan-hands-on-demo-review

The time has come. A welcome surprise on the Xbox live today. The demo was there for Conan. I was eager for some blood and of a game truly deserving of the title of M. The download happened in quick order and was 462 meg. It was quick and painless for the Sector 360 labs have some top notch speed.

The game started with a familiar cut scene, one which I have posted already with Conan speaking to the lady captain of a ship and her recruiting him to retrieve her crew. Conan accepts the offer with a couple of hoggish comments to the fair lady. I wanted to butchering to begin.

In a flurry the swords were whirring around and bodies being thrown off the bridge. Enter the mini boss. Ouch. Got me killed a couple of times over and over. This is when I realized that there might actually be a little bit of skill involved in this little platform game. So….I figured out the mini boss and did the typical kill, kill, pull lever, kill, kill and smash box. Enter 3 of the previous mini bosses. Ya….needed a bit more skill. I had to develop a better tactic. Ok…got that done…..What the hell…is that it…the demo is over….WoW. Uhh……10 minutes later the “demo” was over.

So. There really wasn’t a whole lot to review. There is a forced camera perspective that absolutely sucks…I don’t like it…won’t ever like it. I wanted to pan around and see all there was to see. i couldn’t find it in the controls….I just don’t think it exists in the game. The action seems well enough and the bodies seemed to fall nicely in a nice tight little bunch. You could hear Conan yell at the spec of men he laid waste to. It was fun, I did enjoy myself, but 10 minutes…what the hell. I know I know. But honestly 10 minutes will not let anyone judge whether the game is a buy, rent or pass. The verdict will have to wait.
